A vibrant heritage exhibition has emerged as the main attraction at 10-day Swadeshi Mahotsav 2025, organised by the Swadeshi Jagran Manch, offering visitors a living glimpse of Haryana’s rural life and indigenous traditions.

On the second day of the festival, north zone convener Dr Rajesh Goyal welcomed the chief guests — Chief Minister’s OSD Dr Raj Nehru and Bharat Bhushan Bharti — by presenting bouquets. The guests toured the fair and were briefed about the heritage exhibition, Swadeshi products and cultural activities on display.

A grand poetry symposium based on the theme of Swadeshi was also organised, in which around 125 poets participated and enthralled the audience with their compositions. At the conclusion of the programme, the chief guests honoured poets with Gaurav Samman awards and certificates of appreciation.

Curated by The Heritage Village, Kurukshetra, the exhibition vividly showcases Haryana’s rich folk culture alongside a wide range of Swadeshi products. Swadeshi fair convener Rajesh Goyal said, “The display has generated immense enthusiasm among visitors, who are particularly drawn to the authentic presentation of traditional village life. The exhibition has recreated the feel of a Swadeshi village, making the cultural experience come alive for visitors.”

Several rare artefacts have become popular selfie points, including a over a century old bullock cart, a traditional hand-operated flour mill, a 100-year-old indigenous hand pump, and life-size depictions of women engaged in age-old practices such as grinding grain, pounding rice and carrying fodder. These scenes have been widely shared on social media by visitors.

Dr Mahasingh Poonia, Heritage Village convener, said, “A grand Swadeshi gateway has specially been constructed for the fair. Various styles of the traditional Haryanvi turban are also on display. A recreated village chaupal scene, showing a grandfather and grandson seated on a charpoy, has become a point of attraction for visitors.”

The exhibition further highlights Haryana’s agrarian heritage through displays of ancient ploughs, bullock farming tools, well buckets, grain measuring instruments, seed-sowing equipment, wooden cattle bells, and farming implements dating back over 70 years. Items made of lugdi fibre and utensils nearly 200 years old have also sparked curiosity among visitors. The Swadeshi Mahotsav will remain open to the public till December 28.
