The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday ordered status quo ante in Panjab University DSW  Emanual Nahar's case. The order means that he will continue as Dean.

Prof Nahar and other PU senators had moved the High Court demanding the implementation of a proposal that granted a year’s extension to him. The petitioners had demanded the summoning of a record of an August 22 meeting in this regard.

They had also sought directions for setting aside the order appointing Prof Jagat Bhushan as DSW.

The petitioners had contended that the Vice Chancellor (VC) had gone against the rules to remove Prof Nahar and appoint Prof Bhushan.

Prof Nahar had claimed before Justice Arun Monga’s Court that 48 senators had favoured his continuation during the meeting before providing written information to the VC. Prof Nahar was removed still removed from the post.

The counsel for PU, in an earlier hearing, had sought time to get instructions regarding the argument that the VC had refused to put the matter to a vote in the Senate, even though it had discussed the matter and resolved for continuation of the petitioner as DSW.

Prof Nahar had been “illegally” divested of the charge in accordance with order dated August 22 passed by Vice Chancellor.
