Chandigarh, June 23

Shocked over the decision of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) to revise flat rates, the UT Employees Housing Welfare Society has called a meeting of all its members at the Masjid ground in Sector 20 here on June 25 to discuss the further course of action.

Dr Dharamender, general secretary of the society, said: “The meeting will be held at 5 pm. It is regarding talking to all members about their consent on revised rates. We will also discuss about going to the High Court against the revision of prices.”

They also met their advocate and decided how to proceed further in this matter in the court. The case will be regarding increase in rates only.

According to the public notice by the Chandigarh Housing Board, EWS category flat, which was only Rs 5.76 lakh in 2008, will now cost whopping Rs 58.07 lakh. While three-bed room flat, which was offered for Rs 34.70 lakh, will now cost Rs 1.76 crore.

The Union Cabinet had approved the proposal to allot land to the CHB for the construction of apartments for 3,930 allottees under the scheme in January. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had then given its nod to the Chandigarh Administration to allot land on the basis of current collector rates of the area.

The scheme was launched 11 years ago on a no-profit-no-loss basis and the land was to be allotted at concessional rates to the Chandigarh Housing Board.
