Human rights panel member inspects Sirhind police station

Punjab Human Rights Commission (PHRC) member Jatinder Singh Shunty conducted a surprise inspection of Sirhind police station to review the condition of its facilities and ensure compliance with human rights standards. He inspected the police station’s ‘malkhana’ (store room), lock-up and sanitation facilities with particular emphasis on hygiene.

He also interacted with inmates lodged in the lock-up to know if they were being provided basic amenities and directed police officials to ensure strict adherence to human rights norms.

Speaking to mediapersons, Shunty said every citizen, including those in police custody, is entitled to dignity, cleanliness and a healthy environment under the law. He warned that any violation of human rights would not be tolerated.

He also appealed to the public to report cases of human rights violations by submitting written complaints along with supporting evidence to the commission through its official WhatsApp helpline at 98554-75547.

Meanwhile, a delegation of lawyers led by Varinder Singh Dhillon, Navdeep Singh Taan and Jaspal Singh submitted a memorandum to Shunty urging intervention to facilitate the release of the Punjabi film ‘Satluj’ in theatres and on OTT platforms.
