In Brief: ‘Kidney patients double in decade’
Chandigarh: 2.20 lakh new patients develop chronic kidney failure in India every year. This was stated by Dr Sunil Kumar, director, renal transplant surgery at Park Hospital, Mohali. Dr Kumar said that the prevalence of kidney disease has almost doubled over the past decade and was expected to increase further due to rise in risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, stress and unhealthy eating habits. Nephrologist Mukesh Goyal said chronic kidney failure was progressive in nature and causes irreversible damage to the kidneys.
Event held on ombudsman plan
Chandigarh: The office of the RBI ombudsman, Chandigarh, conducted a town hall event in coordination with SBI, Panchkula. The primary objective of the event was to spread information about the ombudsman scheme and to make people cautious about fraudulent digital transactions. The event was organised for the benefit of bank account holders, pensioners, students, salaried persons, senior citizens, entrepreneurs, farmers, etc.
National Safety Week concludes
Chandigarh: The 54th National Safety Week organised by the Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited from March 4-10 concluded with a strong commitment to reinforcing a culture of safety in daily work and lifestyle, aiming towards a zero-accident workplace. The closing ceremony of the week-long initiative was presided over by Amit Kumar, MC Commissioner, who also inaugurated the CPDL safety handbook.
ASI caught taking bribe
Chandigarh: The CBI caught an assistant sub-inspector of the UT police while allegedly accepting bribe on Tuesday evening. Sources said CBI sleuths had received a complaint against ASI Sher Singh deployed at the Sector 43 police post. A trap was laid and the cop was nabbed.

Zirakpur: A newborn girl was found abandoned near a drain on the rear of the vegetable market in Dhakoli on Tuesday afternoon. The baby was admitted to the CHC, Dhakoli, where doctors were attending to her. The police have registered a case and begun an investigation into it.
