The encounter took place around 6 am, during which both accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs
Two accused involved in the Sector 32 firing incident, on a chemist shop owner, have been arrested after an encounter, near Sector 39 Grain Market, on Wednesday morning, by the Chandigarh Crime Branch.
The encounter took place around 6 am, during which both accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs. The injured shooters have been identified as Rahul and Rocky. They were immediately shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector-16, for treatment. Meanwhile, a third accused, Preet, who was allegedly driving the car, has been arrested.
According to police officials, the Crime Branch team signaled a suspicious car to stop during routine checking. However, instead of complying, the occupants attempted to flee, prompting the police to open fire in self-defence. In the retaliatory action, both shooters were injured.
Earlier, during the firing incident at Sevak Pharmacy, the shop owner’s son, Tanish, was present at the counter and narrowly escaped injury. He immediately informed his family following the incident. The shop owner, Jagdish, a resident of Sector-32, later reached the spot and provided details to the police.
Following the incident, teams from Sector-34 Police Station, the Crime Branch, the Operation Cell, and the District Crime Branch rushed to the scene. A forensic team recovered one empty cartridge from the spot. CCTV footage revealed two youths arriving on an Activa scooter, opening fire at the pharmacy, and fleeing the scene, which helped in identifying the accused.
Police officials stated that interrogation of the injured and arrested accused is underway. The role of other associates, including possible links to a gangster network and a suspected police personnel accomplice, is also under thorough investigation.
