In the lead-up to the Independent Day celebrations, the UT Administration conducted full dress rehearsals today at the Parade Ground, Sector 17, to ensure that every detail is flawlessly executed on the day of the event.

Every aspect of the ceremony, from the timing of the parade to the coordination between various participants, was meticulously planned and executed. The parade is a grand affair, featuring disciplined contingents from the police, armed forces, police band and NSS students, all marching in unison. The participation of school children adds a vibrant touch to the parade, exemplifying the spirit of unity, patriotism and youthful enthusiasm.

Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh was present to oversee the full dress rehearsals. Chandigarh Police under the leadership of DGP Surendra Singh Yadav has put in place a comprehensive security plan. This plan includes strategic traffic diversions, public advisories and an increased security presence to manage the anticipated crowds and ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

The rehearsal for the Independence Day event will include vibrant cultural performances by students from various schools, showcasing the rich heritage and diversity of India.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria will be the chief guest for the event. The celebrations will begin with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Governor at 9 am, followed by various other programmes that will mark the day.

944 pupils of fifteen schools gear up for big day

Around 944 students from 15 schools presented a grand show with full nationalistic zeal. Students performed during the cultural events and other activities based on patriotic themes. They were from Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School, Sohana; APJ School, Mundi Kharar; Gem Public School, Mohali; National Public School, Kurali; Learning Path School, Sector-67, Mohali; Government High School, Kumbhara; Guru Gobind Singh Vidaya Mandir Senior Secondary, Ratwara Sahib, and Saint Solider School, Phase-7, Mohali.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains will hoist the Tricolour to mark the 78th Independence Day at Shaheed Major (Shaurya Chakra) Harminder Pal Singh Government College Stadium, Mohali, said Aashika Jain, DC, while reviewing the preparations at the full dress rehearsal today in Mohali.

Jain, along with Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek, also inspected the parade. IG Police Babu Lal Meena was also present to review the security arrangements. Three police platoons, including one of women police, NCC cadets and school bands of various schools participated in the march past led by DSP Jatinder Chohan as parade commander.

After monitoring the full dress rehearsal, the DC chaired a meeting of all participant schools and various departments engaged in the arrangements and issued necessary directions to make the I-Day celebrations a great success.

‘Tiranga Yatra’ in P’kula

Haryana Assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta and Transport Minister Aseem Goyal today participated in ‘Tiranga Yatra’ here. The yatra started from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk Sector 11 and concluded at Shaheed Major Sandeep Sankhla Chowk in Sector 2. The congregation paid tributes at Major Sandeep Sankhla Shahidi Samarak. The yatra witnessed participation of youths, sportspersons, children and women.

Gupta said such yatras were being taken out in the country with full enthusiasm and patriotism.
