Chandigarh, April 21 

Sri Guru Gobind Singh (SGGS) Club went down fighting against Indian Army, losing 3-2 in the 2nd Marshal Arjan Singh International Hockey Championship here today.

Anselem H scored the opening goal for Indian Army in the 8th minute. Their lead was doubled in the 42nd minute when David Sung converted a penalty corner in the 42nd minute. Two minutes later, Indian Army scored their third goal through Binay Bhengra. 

SGGS pulled off two goals in the gap of two minutes. Vishal Rana scored in the 57th minute, while Jaspreet Singh reduced the lead in the 59th minute. However, the young SGGS team failed to find the equaliser.

In the second match, Punjab Police pumped in eight goals to defeat SMS Academy, Karampur, 8-4. Virender Singh (3rd minute, 12th minute) and Ajay Kumar (15th minute, 17th minute) scored a brace each, while Balwinder SIngh (28th minute), Kanwaljeet Singh (32nd minute), Karjwinder Singh (37th minute) and Jagmeet Singh (40th minute ) added one each to the tally. Dipak (30th minute, 44th minute), Dipak Singh (54th minute) and Dilip Pal (60th minute) scored for the losing side.

The match between Indian Navy and Vivek Academy, Varanasi, ended at 3-3. Indian Navy scored the first goal through Rana Pratap in the second minute. Faraz Mohd scored in the 9th minute to make it 1-1. Just a minute later, Ajinka Jadhav put Indian Navy ahead. However, the lead was cancelled out again as Navdeep scored for Vivek Academy. For the third time, Indian Navy were ahead in the match as AA Rahim found the net in the 23rd minute, but Vivek Academy again made the comeback as M Gunashkar scored in the 26th minute.

In the last match, Punjab & Sind Back logged a 3-2 win against Sports College, Lucknow. Gaganpreet Singh (26th minute, 49th minute) converted two penalty corners and Ashish Pal (21st minute) scored one goal for the bank team. For the Lucknow outfit, Manoj Yadav (2nd minute) and Ajeet Kumar (38th minute) scored a goal each. In the quarterfinal line-up,  ICF Chennai will face Hockey Chandigarh and  South Central railway will take on IAF. In the third quarterfinal, Indian navy will play against SGGS Club and in the last match Indian Army will face Punjab & Sing Bank on Monday at 3BERD grounds and Sector 42 Sports Complex.
