Inter-varsity youth fest kicks off at PU amid fanfare
The 38th AIU (Association of Indian Universities) North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival officially kicked off at Panjab University (PU), marking its return to the campus after seven years.
The festival began with an impressive cultural procession that featured contingents from 21 universities across northern India, including those from Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Chandigarh.
Chief guest Rajeev Verma, Chief Secretary of Chandigarh Administration, highlighted the importance of cultural events in nurturing well-rounded individuals and urged students to embrace creativity for their personal development. Sufi singer Kanwar Grewal, the guest of honour, captivated the audience with a mesmerising performance.
In her address, Prof Renu Vig, Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, celebrated PU’s legacy and educational contribution, praising the efforts of the organising team. Rohit Sharma, Director of Department of Youth Welfare, introduced the festival’s theme, underscoring its role in fostering artistic talent and unity.
With over 1,000 participants, the festival will feature 27 events across theatre, music, fine arts, literary arts and dance, providing a dynamic platform for students to showcase their creativity and passion.
