Jhanjheri college teacher ends her life

A 25-year-old faculty member of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjheri, allegedly died by suicide at her rented house in Ambika Enclave, Sector 115, here on Sunday evening.

The deceased was identified as Ankita Thakur, a native of Barmana near Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh. Her cousin, Aditi, had gone to the market to buy some groceries while Ankita was alone in the room when she allegedly took the extreme step.

Aditi returned home about an hour later and found the door locked from inside. Despite repeated knocking, there was no response following which she called the landlord. Aditi and the landlord forced open the door and found Ankita’s body hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf.

On receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and took possession of the body. No suicide note was found at the scene. The cops seized the deceased’s mobile phone as evidence.

The victim’s brother, Arun Kumar, did not suspect any foul play and stated that his sister’s action was sudden.

The Kharar Sadar police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
