Morinda, August 20
The district police arrested a juvenile for allegedly killing his father with the help of his maternal uncle here on Monday. The victim, Rajinder Singh (49), aka Neeta, a resident of the nearby Majri village, had gone missing last month. Rajinder was a liquor contractor.
On July 24, his car was found abandoned on the bank of Bhakra Canal near Rauni village around 5 am. His slippers were lying near the car.
Ropar Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Balwinder Singh Randhawa said at a press conference that Rajinder had got married to Karamjit Kaur of the nearby Bahrampur Jamindara village in 1999 and they had a 17-year-old son and an 18-year-old daughter. The couple had strained relations and Karamjit Kaur was living at her parental house with both their children for the past four months. Both children, however, used to visit their father at Majri.
After Rajinder went missing on July 23, his father Gian Singh lodged a complaint in this regard and during investigation, it was found that on July 23 evening, Rajinder’s juvenile son gave him some sedative at home. Following this, he, along with Jatinder Pal Singh, brother of Karamjit Kaur, and another accused, Pala, allegedly strangled him to death and disposed of the body in the canal, said the SP. On the motive behind the murder, Jatinder Pal Singh reportedly told the police that he used to torture his sister. The body of the victim has not been traced as yet. The third accused, Pala, is yet to be arrested.
