The Juvenile Justice Board has awarded a unique punishment to a juvenile in a 2024 road accident. He has been directed to spend three months with the traffic police to learn traffic rules.
In the accident that occurred on Assandh Road, a person suffered injuries. Puneet Limba, Principal Magistrate, Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), said a resident of Dutta Colony was hit by a vehicle when he was returning from work.
The Model Town police nabbed the accused, who was 17-year-old at the time of the accident. As he was a juvenile, the JJB directed him to spend three months with the traffic police so that he could learn the rules and teach the same to others.
Justice Limba said in such cases, the objective of justice is not merely to punish, but also to make the minor realise his mistake and transform him into a responsible citizen, he added.
If a child disregards traffic rules during this age, the responsibility lies not only with the child but also significantly with their parents, Justice Limba said.
