Kalyani moves CBI court for complete WhatsApp, FB chats between Sippy Sidhu and key witness
Kalyani Singh, an accused in the murder of 35-year-old national-level shooter and advocate Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu alias Sippy Sidhu, has filed an application before the CBI court seeking complete data, including SMS, WhatsApp and Facebook chats, exchanged between Prosecution Witness No. 17 and Sippy Sidhu.
She submitted that these chats were retrieved from the deceased’s two mobile phones, laptop and hard disk. In her application, Kalyani said the case is pending for the examination of prosecution witnesses listed at serial numbers 17 and 107 on May 15, 2026.
Witness No. 17, in her statement under Section 161 CrPC, mentioned a close relationship with the deceased, Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu alias Sippy. In that context, her statement also refers to the accused. The witness cited various chats between her and the deceased on WhatsApp, Facebook and SMS.
Kalyani said the prosecution has provided only redacted SMS chats for a selective period retrieved from the deceased’s phone. However, the complete data, including WhatsApp and Facebook chats, posts and stories, has not been provided to the defence. The CBI court has issued notice to CBI to file a reply.
Sippy Sidhu, an advocate, was shot dead at a Sector 27 park in Chandigarh on the night of September 20, 2015. After the murder, police registered a case against unknown persons but could not solve it. The case was transferred to CBI in 2016. Even after six years of investigation, CBI failed to trace the culprits and filed an untraced report in December 2020. Later, CBI arrested Kalyani Singh on June 15, 2022, on the allegation of murdering Sippy Sidhu. In its chargesheet, CBI claimed Kalyani was seen talking to Sippy Sidhu before killing him along with an unidentified person using firearms.
