Residents of Kansal village and residential colonies in its vicinity have been spending sleepless nights following long power cuts in the area.

According to the residents, the area has been witnessing repeated outages, which normally lasted eight to 10 hours at a stretch.

Gurpreet Singh, a local resident, said yesterday, the power remained suspended from 10 am to 6 pm. “It was followed by another power cut from 9 pm to 6.25 am today,” he said.

Residents claim that electricity had been playing hide and seek for the past 10 days.

“One could easily judge what we must be going through without power in this sultry weather. We are virtually spending sleepless nights these days,” said Kuldip Singh, another resident of the area.

Residents rued that due to long power cuts, the batteries of inverters installed in several houses get discharged. “Repeated power cuts in our area have virtually disturbed our daily routine,” they added.

When contacted, a senior official of the power department said some old high-tension wires were being replaced with new ones. “Due to this work, the power supply is hit in the area. The problem will be resolved soon,” said the official.
