CHANDIGARH:Third seed Kanvarpreet Singh defeated Abhishek Luthra in straight sets to reach in the quarterfinals of the boys' U-14 category on the opening day of the Roots-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship, here on Monday.

Chandigarh, January 14 

Third seed Kanvarpreet Singh defeated Abhishek Luthra in straight sets to reach in the quarterfinals of the boys' U-14 category on the opening day of the Roots-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship, here on Monday. Kanvarpreet registered a 6-0 6-1 win against his rival. 

Fifth seed Praneel Sharma also pulled off an easy 6-0 6-1 win against Deepansh Jhorar to book hi quarters' berth. Hardik Khanduja outclassed Lavanya Goyal without conceding a single game 6-0 6-0, while Jivaj Chawla defeated Raghav Chaudhary and Aryan Jolly overpowered Paras Verma with identical scores of 6-1 6-1. In the last pre-quarter, Gurbaaz Singh easily defeated Vismay Nair 6-2 6-3.

Meanwhile, top seed Rishi Dahiya outplayed Sankalp 6-2 6-1 to reach in the quarters of the boys' U-16 category. Fourth seed Divjot Singh defeated Jivaj Chawla 6-1 6-4 and Arush Sharma defeated Praneel 6-3 6-4 in other matches. 

Sannat Goel also logged an easy 6-1 6-1 victory against Gurpuneet Singh, however Jagteshwar Singh faced some resistance against Dhruv Pratap before logging a 7-6(6) 6-3 victory.
