Kataria meets ministers, seeks fast-track clearance for Punjab, Chandigarh projects
Presses for priority to urban infra, water conservation works
Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Tuesday held a series of meetings with Union Ministers in the national capital, seeking faster execution and high priority for ongoing developmental projects in Punjab and Chandigarh.
Kataria met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and Tourism, Culture and Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Parliament House. The meetings focused on infrastructure development, urban planning, road connectivity, public welfare initiatives and improved coordination between the Centre, the State and the Chandigarh Administration.
The interactions followed Kataria’s meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah a day earlier on strategic issues concerning Punjab and matters related to the Sikh community, as well as Central developmental projects in the state. The series of engagements underscored the Union government’s thrust on expediting development works in Punjab.
Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu and Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu received the Governor at Parliament and accompanied him during the meetings.
Kataria emphasised sustainable development, improved civic amenities and time-bound implementation of ongoing and proposed projects to benefit the region.
In his meeting with Gadkari, Kataria discussed expansion of road networks to strengthen Punjab’s position as a hub for business and tourism.
With Khattar, he reviewed ongoing urban development, infrastructure and housing projects.
During talks with Shekhawat, the Governor raised concerns over depleting groundwater levels and pressed for strengthening projects aimed at groundwater restoration and provision of safe drinking water.
Kataria urged all Union Ministers to ensure faster execution of projects and enhanced synergy between the Centre, the State and the Union Territory Administration to meet the aspirations of the people of Punjab and Chandigarh.
