Mohali Vigilance sleuths today caught a cop working as a reader in the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police-1 here red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 20,000.

The suspect has been identified as Head Constable Maninder Singh. In a press release, DSP (Vigilance) Harvinder Pal Singh stated that Amarjit Singh, a resident of Bathinda, had filed a complaint with the Mohali Senior Superintendent of the Police that the suspect, posted as a reader in the office of DSP Simranjit Singh Lang, was allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from him for brokering a compromise with his maternal uncle over a property dispute.

The DSP (Vigilance) said the complainant settled the deal for Rs 50,000 and was to pay Rs 20,000 as its first installment today.
