A 29-year-old Kharar man reportedly died in a hit-and-run near Cheema Boilers on the Airport Road in the wee hours of Monday.

The deceased, Nikhil Sharma, was returning home from a shopping mall in Sector 67 where he worked as a sales professional when an unidentified vehicle hit his scooter in the rear on the Mohali-Kharar road.

Locals said a speeding vehicle hit the two-wheeler from behind and sped away.

A flash of light can be seen in the CCTV footage after which dust rises and a helmet rolls down.

The victim’s elder brother Nitesh Sharma and father Sanjay Sharma, who reside in Sukh Sansar Apartments, said the police should identify and arrest the driver of the offending vehicle as soon as possible. They said the victim was to get married soon and had rung up his parents an hour before the accident.

A case was registered at the Phase 8 police station.
