Kin want death for suspect

Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at the illegal colony of migrant labourers in Sector 14 here after the body of the five-year-old girl, who was raped and murdered at a secluded place in the same sector in broad daylight on Sunday, reached the colony.

The parents and relatives of the victim, while demanding the death sentence for the 18-year-old suspect, Lakhpat, could be seen cursing themselves as the family had to shift to the city for a livelihood around three months ago.

The body of the victim was handed over to the family after a postmortem. The postmortem report confirmed rape. Her head was later banged on a stone several times, killing her on the spot. The face of the victim was also disfigured in a bid to hide her identity.

The police produced suspect Lakhpat in the court, which remanded him in judicial custody. Earlier, the police took him to the scene of crime to carry out investigations. The police also went on the route taken by Lakhpat when he took the victim along with him and also the spot from where he scaled the 7-foot-high boundary wall. A medical examination of the suspect was conducted to ascertain whether he was drunk at the time of the crime. The report is awaited.

After the court remanded the accused in judicial custody, people present outside the court slapped him. They tried to vent out their anger on the suspect as they wanted to teach him a lesson.
