Krish clinches dramatic victory at IGU Haryana Junior Boys Championship
Competed against a strong field featuring top 100 junior golfers from across India
A 17-year-old Chandigarh’s golf prodigy, Krish Chawla won the Indian Golf Union (IGU) Haryana State Junior Boys Golf Championship 2026, concluded today at the Panchkula Golf Club.
Competing against a strong field featuring the top 100 junior golfers from across India, Chawla’s victory was a story of resilience, composure and a remarkable final-round comeback on his home course.
He had a slow start to the tournament, opening with a 5-over-par 77. However, he bounced back brilliantly in the second round under scorching Panchkula conditions, firing a 3-under-par 69 to move into contention. He followed it up with a steady even-par 72 in the third round, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
The final round began on a challenging note, with Chawla carding 3-over on the front nine, leaving him three shots behind the leader, Arjun Dahiya. But what followed was a master class in mental toughness and championship golf.
Starting the back nine with renewed focus, Chawla made a crucial par on the 10th hole before rolling in birdies on the 11th and 12th. He continued his charge with back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes to draw at the top of the leader board with Dahiya.
Maintaining composure under pressure, Chawla parred the 17th hole, while Dahiya faltered with a double bogey heading into the final hole. Needing only a bogey to secure the title, the Chandigarh lad showed nerves of steel. On the 18th, after a slightly wayward second shot over the green, he executed a precise chip followed by a composed two-putt to seal victory by one stroke. He finished the tournament with rounds of 77, 69, 72 and 72, totalling 290.
“I stuck to my game plan throughout. Even when I dropped shots, I made sure to bounce back quickly. There are some really good holes here. The 10th is a key tee shot — you have to find the fairway as there’s trouble on both sides,” said Chawla, who will be now compete next at the IGU Andhra Pradesh Amateur Golf Championship in Vizag, followed by the IGU Delhi State NCR Cup and the GU Rajasthan State Amateur Golf Championship.
Ranked among the top amateur golfers in India, Chawla is supported by Roundglass Academy and coached by renowned instructor Jesse Grewal.
