Punjab-cadre IPS officer Kuldeep Singh Chahal will be the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the UT. Chahal, a 2009-batch IPS officer, is presently serving as the SSP in the neighbouring district of Mohali.

The appointments committee of the Cabinet, Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India, today approved the proposal of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for an inter-cadre deputation of IPS officer Kuldeep Singh Chahal from the Punjab cadre to the AGMUT cadre for a period of three years.

The Punjab Government had sent the names of Chahal (2009 batch), the Mohali SSP, Patil Ketan Baliram (2010 batch), AIG, Counter Intelligence, Amritsar, and Vivek Sheel Soni (2011 batch), SSP, Ludhiana Rural, for the post of the UT SSP. Chahal is senior to the other two officers. Before joining the IPS, Chahal was an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the UT police.

The term of Nilambari Jagadale (2008 batch) as the SSP ended last month with the completion of her three-year deputation in the UT.
