Lal Bahadur hockey tourney gets underway today

The 29th Lal Bahadur Shastri Hockey Tournament will be held from December 17th to 23 at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium, Chandigarh.



The 29th Lal Bahadur Shastri Hockey Tournament will be held from December 17th to 23 at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium, Chandigarh.  The tournament will be organised by Lal Bahadur Shastri Hockey Tournament Committee, with the support of Hockey Chandigarh. According to Anil Vohra, secretary general Hockey Chandigarh and the local coordinator of the tournament, a total 8 teams will take part in the tournament that will be played in league format. While Air India, CISF, Chandigarh XI and BSF have been placed in Pool A, PNB, CRPF, EME are Punjab Police are in Pool B. 

Vikas wins chess event

Punjab's Vikas Sharma won the Sebiz All India Open Chess Championship at IT Park Chandigarh on Sunday with seven points. The second position was bagged by Pradeep Singh Negi of Chandigarhl; he also secured 7 points. Candigarh's Tarini Goyal came third with 6½ points. The tournament was conducted by Chandigarh Chess Academy. As many as 114 players from eight states participated in the tournament.

Sidharth enters main draw

CLTA trainee Sidharth Goel and Shreayvir entered main draw of the St. Stephen's School-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament in the U-16 boys' category. In final qualifying round, sixth seed Sidharth defeated Sanat Goyal in a three-setter. Sidharth won the first set 6-2 before Sanat came back strongly to take the second set 6-3. In the final set, Sidharth used his experience to close out the set and match 6-2. Another CLTA trainee Shreayvir defeated Rakshit Dhankar in a closely contested three-setter 6-3 6-7(5) 6-2. Other to qualify for the main draw are Yasvardhan Singh, Ranveer Dhir, Aditya Chauhan, Parth Goel and Rijul Bhatia.
