Liquor baron Arvind Singla denied anticipatory bail

Chandigarh, April 15

A local court has dismissed the anticipatory bail application of liquor baron Arvind Singla, one of the accused in the alleged property grab case of Sector 37. Singla has been on the run since the police booked him, along with nine other accused, in the case on March 2, 2021.

While Singla’s counsel claimed before the court that he was falsely implicated in the case, special public prosecutor Manu Kakkar strongly opposed the anticipatory bail plea by claiming that the police had evidence to prove his involvement in the case. Kakkar also cited the Supreme Court’s judgment that economic offences fall in different categories where interest of society is also to be considered. After hearing the arguments, the court dismissed the anticipatory bail application of the accused. — TNS
