Paddlers of Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara, filed a written complaint against Jain University for allegedly fielding an ineligible player, after losing the match 1-3 during the All-India Inter University Table Tennis Meet at Chitkara University today.

In the complaint to the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) observer, the team members of Phagwara-based university alleged that the other side had fielded a player who had not played their zonal matches, which was mandatory for participating in the all-India meet. Players of the university also claimed that the AIU observer stated that the team list had been submitted by the zonal universities, and it had nothing to do with the AIU. The observer remained unavailable for comments on the issue.

“We raised an objection and submitted proof with the AIU observer at the venue. The player was playing some other championship and hadn’t played the zonal (south zone) meet. However, we were convinced to play the match under protest. We didn’t give a written complaint before the match, and instead submitted it after the match. The next match (semifinal) was halted for a while before the AIU observer asked us to submit the complaint with the zonal authorities,” said Sarth Mishra, who plays for Phagwara university.
