A local court has acquitted one Gurdeep Singh, alias Deepa, a resident of Rupnagar district, Punjab, who was arrested in an Arms Act case registered four years ago after the prosecution failed to prove charges.

A case was registered under Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act on November 9, 2020, after a police team arrested the accused with one country-made pistol during checking.

The police claimed that the accused could not produce any licence or permit for carrying the pistol. Amit Kumar, counsel for the accused, argued that the accused is innocent and has been falsely implicated.

At the time of recovery of the alleged weapon no witness was joined, which created great suspicion over the prosecution story. After hearing of the arguments the court acquitted the accused.
