The UT police have arrested a man who, along with his wife, used to dupe jewellers in the tricity. The woman, after selecting jewellery items, used to claim that she wanted to show these to her mother sitting in the car. The woman then used to sit in the car and escape from the spot with her husband.

In a recent incident, complainant Vipin Verma, a salesman at Mahindra Jewellers, complained that a woman visited the shop on July 3. She selected a gold ring and told the complainant that she wanted show the ring to her mother, who was sitting in an Alto car outside the shop.

The police said the woman took the ring out of the shop and instead of returning, she sped away from the spot.
