Chandigarh, September 22

A Behlana resident has been duped of Rs 2.34 lakh by his unknown Facebook (FB)friend, who lured him to pay customs duty money to get his gift sent from abroad released.

In a complaint to the police, Hemraj stated that he had a FB friend who promised him to send gifts. The suspect convinced the victim to transfer money on the pretext of clearing the customs duty for the package. The victim later found himself duped and approached the police.

The cyber cell probed the matter and a case under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and Sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. — TNS
