High drama was witnessed at Hallo Majra here on Wednesday when a 27-year-old man died after falling from the third floor of a house under mysterious circumstances.

The victim’s relatives and local residents have been staging protests for two days outside the Sector 31 police station. They alleged that the victim was pushed by cops from the rooftop.

The deceased has been identified as Rohit, a native of Bihar, who had come to the city to visit his relative.

He was rushed to the GMCH, Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead. The postmortem has been conducted. The report is expected to come by tomorrow, the police said.

The complainant, Rajiv Kumar, also an eyewitness in the case, stated that the victim, along with relatives and residents, was playing cards on the terrace at 2 pm on Diwali when two cops, Manjit and Ajay, reached there.

The complainant stated that the cops held the victim and forcefully started snatching money from him.

He further stated that the cops pushed the victim, which made him fall from the rooftop. He alleged that the cops fled from the spot.

The complainant demanded a fair probe in the case.

The victim’s aunt Sonia told Chandigarh Tribune, “The cops have no right to do this to us. They killed our son and we demand justice in the case.” His uncle Sikander Kumar said, “It was Diwali and Rohit and others were playing cards. Cops caught hold of our son and pushed him off the terrace after taking money from him.”

UT SSP Nilambari Jagdale said, “The police had raided the spot. The victim jumped off the terrace in a bid to flee. We have marked the inquiry in the case to IPS Niharika Bhatt to clear obscurity in the case.”
