A Mohali court today sentenced one Prabhat Kumar to 10-year imprisonment in a 2017 NDPS Act case. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was imposed on the accused.

Kumar was nabbed with 140 kg poppy husk near Khudda Lahora while coming from Chandigarh to Nayagaon on January 22, 2017. Upon spotting police officers, the accused fled the spot. A case had been registered against unknown persons at the Nayagaon police station.

The court has since acquitted Aman Kumar, Anil Kumar and Harjinder Singh, who were also named in the case.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
