Man gets 20-year rigorous imprisonment for raping minor
Judge of the Fast Track Special Court, Chandigarh, has sentenced a man to undergo
20-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a case registered on the charge of rape and under the POCSO Act three years ago.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 60, 000 on the convict. The police registered the case on the complaint of victim’s mother on November 10, 2021, at the Sector 31 police station, Chandigarh.
She told the police that her 13-year-old minor daughter, along with her friend and brother, left for a park at Ram Darbar in Chandigarh. While, they were sitting in the park, the accused along with his friend met the victim, her friend and brother. The accused on the pretext of showing her daughter railway track, took her alone with him, where he forcibly developed physical relations with her. After completion of investigation, a challan was presented in the court against the accused. Finding prima-facie case, charges were framed against the accused to which he pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
Counsel of the accused argued that his client was falsely implicated in the case. However, the public prosecutor argued that the prosecution had proved the case. After hearing arguments, the court awareded 20-year RI to the convict. The court also recommended that Rs 4,00,000 compensation be given to victim by the District Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh.
