Man held for planting drugs in advocate’s car denied bail

A local court dismissed a bail application of a Raipur Khurd resident in a drug case.

The accused, Khairati Lal, was booked under Section 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Sections 120-B and 506 of the IPC at the Sector 11 police station on September 24, 2022.

On a tip-off, the police had recovered ganja from a car of advocate Ashok Sehgal parked outside his house in Sector 15. The car was locked and Sehgal was called to open it. The contraband in three packets was found on its rear seat.

Sehgal told the police that he had a property dispute with his maternal uncle Khairati Lal and his cousins. He alleged that they had planted the contraband in his vehicle to implicate him in a criminal case.

Terminder Singh, who appeared in the court for Sehgal, and the public prosecutor opposed the bail plea of Khairati Lal, claiming that investigation revealed a deeper conspiracy, shifting the focus from a simple recovery to a malicious frame-up.

The call detail records (CDRs) traced the initial anonymous PCR information to a mobile number activated on a SIM found to be linked to Khairati Lal. The probe revealed that the accused had allegedly planted the contraband in the advocate’s car.

The accused denied the charges. After hearing the arguments, the court dismissed Khairati Lal’s bail application.
