A Jaipur-based man, who lives in Dubai, was on Monday caught with 1.16 kg of gold worth Rs 35 lakh at the international airport here. Kasam Ali, who works at a real estate firm in Dubai, was carrying the gold inside an iron (used to press clothes), which was in his handbag. He claimed to be going to Jaipur to meet his family.
Three days ago, an Amritsar resident returning from Bangkok was arrested with 11 gold biscuits worth Rs 25.57 lakh. Six days ago, a 20-year-old student was arrested with 7 kg of gold, worth Rs 2.1 crore. This was the 11th gold recovery at the airport since its reopening on June 1. —TNS
