Chandigarh: A Mohali resident has been arrested by the crime branch while riding a stolen Activa scooter.



Chandigarh: A Mohali resident has been arrested by the crime branch while riding a stolen Activa. Harjeet Singh, alias Kala, a resident of Kartarpur village in Mohali district, was nabbed at a naka near the PGI. The police said he was caught while riding an Activa, which was stolen from Budanpur, Panchkula. He had affixed a fake registration plate on the scooter. A case has been registered against the suspect at the Sector 11 police station. TNS

Man hit by Shatabdi, dies

Chandigarh: A man in his early sixties was found dead on a railway track near the Mani Majra crossing here on Wednesday. According to officials, it appeared to be an accident. The Shatabdi driver reportedly said the pedestrian was crossing the track when he got hit. The police have shifted his body to the Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula. Officials said the man was yet to be identified. TNS

Complete PU-CET forms by june 4

Chandigarh: Candidates who had deposited their fee for PU-CET (PG), but could not complete their forms online can contact the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Computer Centre, Panjab University, for the same. The deadline for completing the forms is June 4 till 4 pm. The candidates should bring a scanned photograph, along with signature, in a pen drive along and will have to submit Rs 500 fine. No communication in this regard will be entertained thereafter.

Last date for ‘golden chance’

Chandigarh: The PU has extended the last date for the ‘golden chance’ being given to the  students of all professional courses/undergraduate/postgraduate courses  to complete their degree from May 20 to June 6. The examinations will be held in June. TNS

Ut to release increased DA 

Chandigarh: The UT Administration has decided to release additional installment of dearness allowance to its employees. The additional 6 per cent DA installment will be paid with effect from January 1 this year. The DA has been enhanced from 148 per cent to 154 per cent. The decision will benefit over 20,000 employees working in the Administration, the Municipal Corporation and boards. TNS

Man harasses woman, booked

Chandigarh: An unidentified man has been booked for passing abusive comments on a woman in Sector 32. The police said the complainant alleged that a security guard passed comments on her near an HDFC ATM in the Sector 32 market on May 27. A case under Sections 354-A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused at the Sector 34 police station. The police have begun an investigation into it. TNS

Parteek shines for St Stephen’s 

Chandigarh:  Parteek Shah claimed a five-wicket haul as St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, logged a 70-run win over Arya School Academy, Sohana, in the 2nd Beat the Heat U-15 Cricket Tournament, here today. Putting to bat, St Stephen’s boys scored 165/8 in allotted 30 overs with the help of Rajnish (57) and Karan Singh (18). Saurav (4/38) and Babloo (2/32) were the two main wicket takers for the side. Panchkula:  A fine batting performance by Lakshay Yadav (86) helped Narinder Walia Cricket Academy (NWCA) to beat Dikshant Global Cricket Academy, Zirakpur, by three wickets in the ongoing Hot Weather U-16 Cricket Tournament. Batting first, the Zirakpur outfit posted 188/6 in 25 overs. Adhiraj (68) lead the score chart and was ably supported by Ujjwal (63). Bhavya Kapoor (4/29) was the main wicket taker for the bowling side. In reply, NWCA posted 192/7 in 23 overs with the help of Yadav and Avyay Jindal (23). Ujjwal (4/37) was the pick of the bowlers, while Kushagra (2/32) was the other main wicket taker.TNS

Haryana record 185-run win 

Panchkula:  Haryana defeated Telangana by 185 runs in the ongoing Shahed Bhagat Singh U-16 Trophy, here today. Batting first, Haryana posted 282/5 in allotted 25 overs. Jashan Beniwal (86), Anmol Kaushik (55) and Vikram (32) were the three main scorers for the side. Livin (2/17) was the main wicket taker while Himanshu and Rahil claimed a wicket each for the bowling side. In reply, Telangana boys bundled out on 97 runs before getting all-out in 23.3 overs.  Rahil (20) and Bhaskar (17) were the only two main run scorers for the side. Anubhav Kaushik (5/22) was the main wicket taker or the side, while Paras (3/11) and Parminder (2/16) were the other main wicket takers for the side. Vijay scores 99 as BML XI win 

Chandigarh:  In the ongoing 6th Champions Corporate Cricket League, BML XI defeated Knights XI by 79 runs, here today. Winning the toss and electing to bat, BML XI posted 164/3 in allotted 20 overs. Vijay Wadhwan scored a quick fire 99 off 69 Balls, with 10 boundaries and three sixes, while Rishi Kohli (27) was the other notable performer with the bat. Govind Sharma and Pritam claimed a wicket each for the bowling side. In reply, Knights XI bundled out on 85 runs in 12.2 overs. Rajiv Rana (20) and Kamal (15) were the two main scorers for the side. Panchkula: PDCA CLDAV defeated Mohit Cricket Academy by 51 runs in the ongoing U-16 Satluj Hot Weather Cricket Tournament, here today. Batting first, CLDAV lads posted 181/9 in 30 overs with the help of Shivam Joshi (44), Nitish (39) and Krish (37). Ankur (2/39) and Vansh (2/16) were the two main wicket takers for the bowling side. Man sentenced to life term

Mohali: A local court on Wednesday awarded a life term to a person for murdering his wife. The convict, Tony (25), had killed his wife Radha (24), by hitting a hammer on her head. The incident had occurred in February last year.part from life imprisonment, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict. Tony, who used to work as a labourer and was booked under Section 302 of the IPC on complaint of Radha’s father Gurdial Singh. The police said the couple were having five children. “The couple fought due to some issue. Tony hit her wife with a hammer,” said the police. TNS
