Man posing as DSP dupes Panipat resident of Rs 35L in lieu of govt tender
Prime accused, brother in police net
The police have arrested a man posing as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and his brother for allegedly duping a Panipat resident in lieu of fake government tenders.
The accused have been identified as Tarun Goyal and his brother Vipul Goyal.
Sharing details, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vikram Nehra said the complainant, Yogesh, met Tarun in 2014. The latter arranged a meeting with his brother, Vipul, claiming that he was a DSP in Haryana Police.
To gain the victim’s trust, Vipul met with Yogesh in police uniform on multiple occasions. The accused lured Yogesh with the promise of getting a government tender to install CCTV cameras.
The victim handed over Rs 15 lakh in cash to the accused during a meeting in Sector 6, Panchkula, in February 2017. Subsequently, a total of Rs 35 lakh was extorted in installments.
The accused, however, soon stopped taking the victim’s calls. In June 2023, they returned Rs 1.96 lakh but then broke off contact completely. The victim later learnt that Vipul was not a police officer and filed a complaint.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta said a case was registered on September 11, 2025, at the Sector 7 police station.
The police’s Anti-Immigration Fraud Unit arrested both the accused, who were sent to a three-day remand.
During questioning, the Haryana Police DSP uniform used for the fraud was recovered from accused. They have been sent to judicial custody and the police are now investigation the matter to identify the accused’s accomplices.
