Mayor discusses development, Swachh ranking at first meet

Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla today discussed various issues pertaining to the city’s development during an interaction with councillors and officers of the Municipal Corporation (MC) here today.

While AAP councillors attended the meeting, those of the Congress gave it a miss. Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar, Joint Commissioners Gurinder Singh Sodhi, Sumit Sihag and Shashi Vasundhara, and Superintending Engineer, Horticulture and Electricity, KP Singh, were also present in the meeting.

In her brief speech, the Mayor expressed the need for a time-bound work by the Municipal Corporation. She requested all councillors and officers to call her for any kind of issues related to the MC and development works in their respective wards and departments.

She said overall development was her priority and the pending works would be completed soon with the co-operation of the councillors and officials. Public participation to ensure the beautification of the city is necessary, she added.

The Mayor also discussed other important issues, including the status of provisions of funds, issues to be taken up in the coordination meeting of the UT Administration and the MC, improvement in solid waste management projects, works aimed at improving Swachh Survekshan ranking. She said works related to Ward Development Funds should be taken up on priority.

She said action would be taken against the official concerned for unattended work. A stringent action will also be taken against sanitary inspectors for littering in their respective areas.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh Congress president HS Lucky said the councillors were busy as newly elected Senior Deputy Mayor Jasbir Singh Bunty and Deputy Mayor Taruna Mehta officially assumed charge today, and nominations for the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) were to be filed. He said they would extent cooperation on issues pertaining to the development of the city.
