A 49-year-old man, an employee of the enforcement wing of the Municipal Corporation, reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Sector 19. The victim, a beldar, has left a suicide note, blaming MC officials for harassing him.

The victim, Jaspal, committed suicide last night. The incident came to light this morning after his family found him hanging.

The police were informed about the incident, who visited the spot and initiated an investigation. A suicide note was recovered from the spot by the police. Jaspal was on leave since March 13.

Sources said earlier the police were not showing the suicide note to the family. However, the victim’s neighbours and relatives protested after which the police showed the suicide note to them.

The victim has named a senior MC official and a sub-inspector of the enforcement wing in the suicide note, written on March 16. The victim has stated that both officials used to harass him. The police took the suicide note into their possession and shifted the body to the mortuary at GMSH, Sector 16. Inquest proceedings have been initiated at the Sector 19 police station. “We will investigate the matter and check the authenticity of the suicide note,” said a police official. The victim is survived by his wife and three children.
