Acting tough against property tax defaulters, KK Yadav, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, on Wednesday ordered to issue notices to the Golf Club and the Lake Club, Chandigarh.

Sources said soon after the Commissioner’s directions, the property tax wing of the MC issued notices to the Golf Club, Sector 6, for dues amounting to Rs 5,46,19,604 and the Lake Club, Sector 5, for dues amounting to Rs 63,77,645. Both clubs have been ordered to deposit the amount before July 31 failing which the attachment/sealing process would be initiated as per law against the defaulters. The sources said in the first phase, notices were sent to 11 defaulters last week.

The MC has prepared a list of over 50 such defaulters who will be served notices in the current financial year. According to Section 138 of the Municipal Act, the Commissioner is authorised to attach, sell or seal the property of tax defaulters. — TNS
