Zirakpur: A mishap victim succumbed to his injuries at the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Ranbir Singh, a resident of Zirakpur. He was reportedly hit by a car on December 10 night near the AKM resort, Zirakpur. His uncle Narinder Singh, a resident of Zirakpur, told the police that on the December 10 night, he had gone to to meet his nephew Ranbir Singh, who worked in a hotel near the resort. He alleged that while he was waiting for him, a car bearing the registration number of Punjab, which was coming from the Patiala side, hit his nephew. Acting on the complaint of Narinder Singh, the police have registered a case against the car driver, Ramesh Kumar. OC 

One injured in road accident 

Zirakpur: The police have registered another accident case against an unidentified driver on the complaint of Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Singhpura village, Zirakpur. The complainant told the police that on December 6, he, along with his cousin Satvir Singh, had gone to Chandigarh for some work. As they were returning on separate vehicles, a rashly-driven car hit Satvir Singh near Global Business Park, Zirakpur. The injured was admitted to the PGI, Chandigarh.  OC

Biker hits stationary truck, dies

Kharar: Bahadur Singh, a resident of Padiala village, died when his motorcycle hit a truck parked on the roadside, without indicators on, near Sahoran village on Wednesday night. His cousin Amarjeet Singh told the police that Bahadur Singh worked as a plumber with the GBP company at Daun Majra village was returning home at the time of the incident. The truck, which is yet to be identified, was  parked on the roadside opposite Rayat and Bahra University. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died. The Kharar police have registered a case against an unknown truck driver under Sections 304-A and 427 of the Indian Penal Code. OC

CHB grievance redressal camp

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) organised a samadhan shivir on its premises to resolve grievances of allottees. The camp was held under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, Chandigarh Housing Board. Twenty-two allottees/applicants turned up at the programme. The Chief Executive Officer is already holding review meetings on every Wednesday with the staff of the CHB for the disposal of complaints. TNS

Senior citizens’ issues discussed   

Chandigarh: BL Sharma, Secretary, Social Welfare, assured  to provide all help to senior citizens during a discussion with representatives of NGOs working for their welfare on Thursday. The NGOs demanded the enrolment of volunteers wanting to work for the welfare of senior citizens and the police verification of interested volunteers. TNS   

Two arrested on theft charge

Zirakpur: The police here arrested two persons for theft. The accused, identified as Rama Parsad and Dharminder Paswan, both residents of Zirakpur, were nabbed at a naka near the Chhat traffic lights on Thursday. The police said they had received information that both were involved in the theft of pipes and shuttering plates and were going towards Zirakpur side in a van loaded with stolen pipes. A case has been registered against the two under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. OC 

Gymnasts shine in state games 

Mohali: Local gymnasts bagged a rich haul of medals in the recently concluded 64th School State U-17 Games, in Patiala. Jacky Sagar was adjudged all round best gymnast of Punjab, while Aman claimed the second position and Harshdeep claimed the third position. All these three players have won six gold, four silver and three bronze medals. They have been selected for the upcoming National School Games, to be held in Tripura, from December 15 to 19. Another local trainee Tamanna Sharma has also been for the same championship. Coach Samir Deb, who is heading the Punjab State Institute of Sports for gymnastics, congratulated his trainees. 

Chess meet from today 

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Chess Academy will organise Sebiz Finishing School All India Open Chess Championship, from December 14 to 16. A total of 114 players (out of which 38 are internationally rated) from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Bihar will compete for the top honours. A total of 46 prizes will be distributed among the winners. TNS
