Chandigarh, October 15

The decision to change the pass criteria of the Class X by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has evoked a mixed response form city’s academics.

The CBSE on Thursday stated that the pass criteria would remain unaffected and stand relaxed for the next academic session too. Earlier, the board had relaxed the passing criteria as one time measure for students appearing for the Class X boards as CCE was revoked after 10 years.

As per the existing pass criteria, students will have to attain 33 per cent overall to pass, instead of 33 per cent separately in external and internal assessment.

President of Association of SSA RMSA Teachers of India Arvind Rana said, “Now, it has been proved beyond any doubt that the CBSE has become a defunct body as it cannot take a wise decision. The HRD Minister’s claim of improving the levels of education has fallen flat.” “Taking a U-turn on its earlier stand the CBSE says Class X students have to score 33% marks collectively in both internal assessment and board paper. Teachers are happy as 20 marks rest with school. Now, students will have to score only 13 marks to pass in the examination. Teachers will be spared as result can be improved with little efforts,” he added.

President of Chandigarh Parents Association Nitin Goyal said, “It is a welcome step as students will not be burdened.”
