Mock drill held at PU ahead of I-Day

Chandigarh Police today conducted a mock drill at the Student Centre, Punjab University, to assess emergency response preparedness ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.

The exercise, carried out by the operations cell under SP (Operations) Geetanjali Khandelwal and DSP (Operations) Ranjodh Singh, checked coordination among Chandigarh Police and other emergency agencies of the Chandigarh Administration.

The drill began with a simulated report of a suspected explosive device at the Student Centre. Commandos of the operations cell cordoned off and evacuated the premises, while HIT teams, bomb detection squad and the dog squad launched a search operation.

Search teams located a dummy IED near a letter box at the Student Centre. The area was subsequently sanitised to rule out additional objects.

Quick reaction teams, PCR units, Dial-112, fire brigade, civil defence, mobile forensic team, district crime cell, crime branch, PU police post, police station team of Sector 11, SDPO/Central and ambulance services from GMSH-16 and police hospital, Sector 26, took part in the exercise. — TNS
