Mohali cop held for pushing girl into canal
The police arrested a cop, Yuvraj Singh, deployed at SSOC, Mohali, for murdering a 22-year-old girl by pushing her into a canal in Rupnagar.
The body of Nisha Soni, a resident of Jogindernagar, Himachal, was retrieved from Patiala.
The police said the girl was insisting that the accused, a native of Fatehgarh Sahib, marry her. However, he was already married and his wife was set to return from abroad soon.
The incident took place at night, following which the accused fled from the spot.
A murder case has been registered against the accused.
Former Himachal Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has sought strict action against the culprit. He tagged Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann in a post on ‘X’, seeking justice for the victim and her family. —TNS
