Mohali gears up for I-Day celebrations

Preparations for the district-level Independence Day celebrations began at Shaheed Major Harminder Pal Singh Government College, Phase 6, where the main function will be organised on August 15.

Students from 13 schools commenced rehearsals for a cultural programme, march past and other presentations for the occasion. The full-dress rehearsal will be held on August 13.

Punjab Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Harbhajan Singh will be the chief guest at the district-level Independence Day function. He will unfurl the national flag and address the gathering. Tableaux depicting welfare-oriented initiatives, flagship programmes and achievements of the state government will also be showcased during the celebrations.

Freedom fighters and Veer Naris will be accorded due honour and respect in recognition of their invaluable contribution and sacrifices for the nation. The Health Department will depute a dedicated medical team during the rehearsal days as well as on the day of the main function, to ensure prompt medical assistance, if required.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal visited the venue and took detailed feedback from officers of all departments entrusted with various responsibilities for the smooth and successful conduct of the Independence Day celebrations.
