Mohali, August 13

Commuting on around 4-km stretch of the Mohali-Landran road is nothing less than a challenge for commuters. Several potholes on the road add to the woes of the commuters.

The depth of several potholes on the road, which is hardly 12-feet wide, is nearly one-and-a-half feet and during rain, these are filled with water and cause accidents.

The stretch is one of the busiest roads in the area. "You can see traffic jams on the stretch at any given time," said Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Landran village.

During a random survey of the road, the Chandigarh Tribune team found that the road banks were broken at several places.

Potholes were filled with water and both sides of the road had turned into slush, putting the life of two-wheeler riders at risk.

“Keep two-wheeler riders aside, even driving a four-wheeler on the road is very challenging. In a bid to avoid large potholes, the four-wheeler drivers usually come on the wrong side, leading to accidents due to slush or after getting stuck in potholes,” said Mohali-based Avtar Singh, who studies at a private college in Landran.

Several residents, who use the stretch regularly, lamented that their vehicles get damaged due to the potholes on the road.

If go by the words of senior officials of the PWD Department, the problem would be redressed by the end of August.

Nareshinder Singh Walia, Executive Engineer, PWD (B&R) said tenders had already been floated for patchwork on the stretch.

“The tender process will be completed soon. Thereafter, patchwork will be initiated by the end of August,” said Walia.
