Chandigarh: The UT crime branch has nabbed a Mohali resident with 10.12 gm of heroin. According to the police, Kapil Sharma, a resident of Dhakoli, Mohali, was arrested from the Poultry Farm chowk-Ram Darbar road on April 2.

Theft reported from clinic

Chandigarh: A theft was reported from a clinic in Sector 21 from where Rs 18,000 and valuables were stolen on the intervening night of April 1 and 2. According to the police, Dr RC Garg reported that he learnt about the theft on April 2 when he came to the clinic. The main gate was lying open and the entire clinic had been ransacked. The police said money, two silver glasses, a computer, two headlights of a car, 10 taps, a drill machine, a wood cutter, a marble cutter and various other articles were stolen. The police were informed, who inspected the spot. A case has been registered at the Sector 19 police station. TNS

Man booked for land fraud 

Kharar: The Kharar Sadar police have booked Rahul Mehra, on the charge of committing a fraud with two persons in connection with plots purchased by them. Chittaranjan Yadav of Mohali had complained to the police that he had purchased a plot for Rs 14 lakh from the accused and the sale deed was registered, but the accused had not given him the possession of the plot, he alleged. Similarly, Anjana Kumari, a resident of Sohana, had complained that she had purchased a plot from the accused for Rs 7.5 lakh, but she was not given the possession of the plot. The police have registered two cases against Rahul Mehra. OC

Illegal mining: 4 trucks seized

Kharar: The mining department seized four trucks carrying illegally mined material in the early hours of Wednesday. Daljeet Singh Tangra, Sub-Divisional Officer-cum-Assistant District Mining Officer, said he had arranged a naka near Kharar chowk when four tippers filled with sand were stopped for checking. The driver could not produce any documents regarding sand. A case under the Mines and Mineral Development and Regulation Act and Section 379 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against Baga Motors, Mandeep Singh, Baljinder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Prashottam Lal, Sethi, Sarabjit Singh and Om Prakash. Ropar: A training programme for special juvenile protection officers was held at the Police Lines here on Wednesday. Harsimranjit Singh, CJM-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, sensitised the police officials towards the Juvenile Justice (Care of protection of children) Act, 2015, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. Drug peddler arrested 

Kharar: The Sunny Enclave Police post have arrested Surinder Singh, a resident of Anandpur Sahib, following the recovery of 32-kg poppy husk from the truck he was driving. ASI Kewal Singh had arranged a naka near Nijjer chowk when the truck which was coming from Chandigarh side was stopped. On seeing the police, the driver tried to escape. However, he was caught hold by the police. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered. — OC
