Differences between Mayor Kulwant Singh and the Senior Deputy Mayor Rishabh Jain have come to the fore again.

The Mayor reportedly left abroad around 10 days ago without handing over the charge of his office to Jain, who is upset over this.

“He (the Mayor) has intentionally violated the protocol due to political rivalry. I am going to bring the matter to the notice of Punjab Minister of Local Government Navjot Singh Sidhu,” said the Senior Deputy Mayor.

Miffed, Jain claimed that Kulwant Singh did not even bother to inform him about his leave.

“I came to know today that he was out of the country for the past 10 days. I don’t know when he would return. This is not the way. It is a highly irresponsible act,” said Jain, adding that similar incidents took place two-three times earlier also.

“Then, he had officially handed over the charge to me. I had also got his official vehicle and gunmen,” said Jain while claiming that the work in the office was being affected due to the development.

“When Kulwant was with us (Congress), he went abroad only after handing me the charge of the office. But he did not do so this time as he was in the Shiromani Akali Dal now,” said Jain.

Meanwhile, Mayor Kulwant Singh’s phone was found switched off.

A local municipal councillor, a staunch supporter of Kulwant Singh, said he too did not know where the Mayor was. “He might be out of the country for some personal work,” said the councillor.
