Mohali MC proposes Rs 226.98-crore Budget

A special budget meeting of the Mohali Municipal Corporation today passed a budget of Rs 226.98 crore for 2026-27. A revenue of Rs 70 crore is expected from property tax. The MC has set a target of Rs 29.5 crore from advertisement in 2026-27 and expects to collect Rs 25.19 crore by March 2026.

The MC proposes to spend roughly Rs 147 crore on development works in 2026-27. In the current fiscal, total spending on development is expected to reach Rs 112 crore by the end of March.

Mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu revised the expenditure of Rs 50 lakh — previously proposed by councillor Sukhdev Singh Patwari for upgrading the city’s libraries and connecting them with WiFi — to Rs 5 crore. The house resolved to increase the number of wards from 50 to 80, in view the expansion of the boundary of the civic body.

Regularising the sanitation workers who have been serving for more than three years, cancelling the licenses of deceased owners of taxi stands, retaining 1,000 sanitation workers, 200 gardeners, 50 drivers and 20 sewadars for the increased area of the corporation, were the other resolutions.

Councillor Manjit Singh Sethi raised the issue of only plastering and painting roads instead of repairing them. Councillor KS Kaler spoke about the gap between the revenue generation and the target in the budget. Councillors Harjit Singh Bholu and Harjinder Kaur raised the issue of illegal water and sewage connections in Sector 79 and dirty drinking water in Sohana village. In the meeting, it was decided to cancel the resolution of mechanical cleaning for B roads of the city.

Before the commencement of the meeting of the corporation, the House expressed its sorrow over the suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the district manager of Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, and observed a two-minute silence.
