The local Municipal Corporation has proposed a budget of Rs 127.8 crore for the financial year 2019-20. It will come up for approval during the special budget House meeting scheduled for March 5.

An estimated expenditure of Rs 149.92 crore against the total income of Rs 127.8 crore proposed in the budget shows a net deficit of Rs 22.12 crore.

For the fiscal 2018-19, the MC had passed the budget worth Rs 128.17 crore against the income of Rs 112.93 crore, showing a Rs 15-crore deficit. However, the MC managed to increase its income to Rs 117.02 crore decreasing the deficit to Rs 7.85 crore.

For the fiscal 2017-18, the MC had passed the budget with estimated expenditure of Rs 138.50 crore against estimated income of Rs 117.50 crore, showing a deficit of Rs 21 crore.

“Our focus will be on cutting the fiscal deficit by increasing revenue generation from various sources, including licence fee, building application fee and tehbazari. This will give us a boost of around Rs 10 crore, thus reducing the fiscal deficit,” said MC Commissioner Bhupinder Singh.

In the proposed budget, the income generated from advertisements has been increased by Rs 1 crore, taking the inflow to Rs 11 crore against Rs 10 crore generated last year.

Mayor Kulwant Singh said advertisement rates could be increased or decreased by the MC House any time.
