Musical tributes paid to Batalvi

Chandigarh, July 22

The larger than life image of legendary Punjabi poet Shiv Kumar Batalvi conjured up in minds of audience as five singers presented songs immortalised by the legend.

The programme was organised by the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Academy in collaboration with Sargam Society of Indian Music and Art to mark Batalvi’s 81st  birth  anniversary.  The  musical soiree  commenced with ‘Mayein ni mayein and ‘Ikk kudi jihda naam mohabbat’  by SD Sharma followed ‘Gaman di raat’ and ‘Yaariya rabb kerr ke’ by Simant Singh.   Sushil Nagpal doled out ‘Keeh pucchde o..’ and ‘Bhathhi waliye’ before director RD Kailey and Dr Komaal Chugh took the centre stage  and sang ‘Raat chanani main turaan’, ‘Jad pain kapahiin phull ve’ and other songs only to spell magic.

The CSNA vice-chairman, Atul Sharma, welcomed  the chief guest, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, guest of honour SK Monga, IAS (Retd), and Justice Sneh Prashar. OC
