Chandigarh: Nandini, a student of St Joseph’s School, Sector-44, won the gold medal in the seven Nations Boxing Cup held at Serbia from January 9 to 15.



Chandigarh: Nandini, a student of St Joseph’s School, Sector-44, won the gold medal in the seven Nations Boxing Cup held at Serbia from January 9 to 15. She bagged the gold in the 81kg category. 

CP beat Infosys XI in cricket   

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police (CP) beat Infosys XI by 31 runs to win the first Corporate Cup. Batting first, Chandigarh Police scored 171/8 in 20 overs. Balwinder (Junior) scored 77 runs while Jaswinder Singh added 36 runs. Abhinav Mittal claimed two wickets while Vicky took one. In reply, Infosys were bundled out for 140 runs in 18.5 overs. Vicky (30) and Apoorav (21) were the main scorers. Balwinder (Senior) claimed three wickets while Balwinder (Junior) and Kapil Punia grabbed two wickets each.

Tennis c’ship from Jan 27

Chandigarh: Sunrise Tennis Academy (STA) will organise Open Tennis Tournament on January 27-28 at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1. The championship will be organised for the boys and girls in the U-10, U-12, U-14 and U-16 years age category. Interested players should confirm their entries at the tournament venue before January 26.

Jagdish wins powerlifting gold

Chandigarh: Jagdish Singh bagged the gold medal in the Masters National Powerlifting Championship at Coimbatore. He won the top honour by lifting a total weight of 550kg (212.5kg squat, 120kg bench press and 217.5 kg dead lift) in the 93kg category. He also created two national records in the squat and bench press 

Punjab beat HP in football 

Chandigarh: Punjab beat Himachal Pradesh 2-0 in the north zone leg of the Santosh Trophy match at Noida. Kamaldeep (44 min) and Rohit Jhamat (71 min) scored the goals for the winning team. Punjab next play Jammu and Kashmir on January 18. In another match, Delhi played out a 1-1 draw with Jammu and Kashmir. 

The Gurukul, St John’s in semis  

Chandigarh: The Gurukul School, Panchkula, and hosts St. John’s High School, Sector 26, won their matches to sail into the semifinals of the first New Year Bash Cricket Tournament. In the first match, the Gurukul boys defeated Learning Paths School, Mohali, by eight wickets. Batting first, the Mohali outfit scored only 39 runs in 14.3 overs. Pransh Bhatia claimed three wickets while Tanish claimed two wickets. Yash Bhadana and Ayush claimed one wicket each. In reply, the Gurukul boys scored 40 runs in just 8.2 overs with the help of Yatharth (15) and Panshul (14). In the second match, hosts St John’s School beat Learning Paths School (B) by six wickets. The Learning Paths boys scored 61/8 in 20 overs. Trishaq (15) was the main scorer. Akshaan, Vedansh and Jaiveer Singh took two wickets each. In reply, the St. John’s boys scored 62/4 in 10 overs with Yatharth (34) and Vedansh (15) remaining unbeaten.—TNS
