Chandigarh, January 12

Third seed Navya Verma from Punjab stunned second seed Aryan Thakur to reach the boys’ U-18 final on the penultimate day of the ongoing CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-3) Tennis Tournament at the CLTA Complex in Sector 10.

Verma logged a 9-4 win over local contender Thakur. He will be facing top seed Sarthak Gandhi, who defeated sixth seed Amish Bansal 9-2 in the title clash. Earlier in the quarterfinals, Verma defeated Upnishad Bhardwaj 9-4, Gandhi blanked seventh seed Aditya Chauhan 9-5, Bansal managed to edge past fourth seed Arihant 9-7 and Thakur ousted Anirudh Sangra 9-4.

Harleen to play against Riya in final

In the girls’ U-18 category, top seed Harleen Kaur Dhanda will face Riya Kaushik in the final. In semi-finals, Harleen defeated third seed Radhika Vasudeva 7-2 (conceded) and fifth seed Riya ousted Haryana’s Saanvi Garg 9-7. In quarterfinals, Harleen blanked Ananya Dogra 9-0, Radhika defeated Mrinalini Sharma 9-5, Riya outplayed fourth seed Vanya Arora 9-2 and Saanvi defeated Shriya Singh 9-3. — TNS
